About Joe

joedaningIn 2008, Representative Joe Daning was elected to the South Carolina State House representing District 92.  As a junior Representative, Joe made a big splash by advocating to make our state government more transparent, efficient and accountable.  Joe co-sponsored several restructuring bills this year including red tape reduction for small businesses, and a bill to shorten the legislative year. He championed a voter ID bill, right-to-life legislation, the secret ballot bill which protects employees, the cigarette tax increase, stiffer child abuse laws, and a bill to study issues affecting South Carolina’s veterans including homelessness, health care and job placement.

Joe has lived in South Carolina for nearly 50 years.  Born in Philadelphia in 1942, Joe spent four years in the U.S. Air Force before beginning a 28 year career with the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retiring as the Director of Shipyard Education.  In 1993, Joe left the shipyard to accept a position with his current employer, Trident Technical College, where he currently serves as Director of Workforce & Military Programs.  He earned an A.S. in Business from Trident Technical College, a B.S. in Adult Education from Southern Illinois University and an M.A. in Management and Business from Webster University.  Joe and his wife Brenda have been married for 45 years.  They have two sons, Michael and Tim.  In his spare time, Joe enjoys working around the house and spending time with his beautiful grandchildren.
